Frequently Asked Questions
Building a pool is one of the most significant investments you'll make in your home. We've put together answers to the questions we're asked most often, to help you feel informed and confident from the very first conversation.

The most frequently asked question we get, and a fair one. Every pool we build is bespoke, so costs vary considerably depending on size, shape, finish and site conditions. As a general guide:
An 8m x 4m fully tiled pool starts from $95,000 plus a heating source which is generally $5000-$9000. A useful rule of thumb is approximately $3,000 per square metre of pool. From there, additions typically include: a spa from $25,000, in-floor cleaning from $15,000 to $20,000, a negative edge from $20,000, and pool automation we generally do on most projects and is included in the above.
These are guides only. The best way to understand what your project will cost is to speak with Scott directly. There are no hidden charges or surprises in how we quote.

A custom concrete pool is built on site from the ground up, which means it can be any shape, size or depth you need. There are no limitations imposed by a factory mould.
Concrete pools are the choice for architectural and design-led projects. They integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, allow for bespoke finishes including full mosaic tiling, and are built to last for generations. At TLC Pools, concrete construction is our speciality and has been for more than 30 years.
Fibreglass pools are pre-formed shells that are craned into an excavated hole. They are faster to install and generally lower in cost, but offer limited shapes and finishes and are not suited to complex or sloped sites.

Yes. Some of our most celebrated projects have been on challenging sites, including steep slopes, tight access, high water tables and complex engineering requirements. No site challenge is too great. Our experience across Melbourne's eastern suburbs, which includes many elevated and heavily treed properties, means we're well-practised at finding solutions that others might not consider.

TLC Pools is based in Warrandyte and builds primarily across Melbourne's eastern and outer eastern suburbs. Our projects span Templestowe, Donvale, Eltham, Park Orchards, Kangaroo Ground, Park Orchards, Warrandyte, North Warrandyte, Ringwood, Surrey Hills, Ivanhoe, Balwyn, Brighton and surrounds. We also work on larger rural and semi-rural properties across Victoria including Portsea and Red Hill.

Yes, and it's something we genuinely enjoy. Our reputation has been built alongside many of Melbourne's leading architects, home builders and landscape designers. We are as comfortable working from a fully resolved set of plans as we are assisting clients who come to us without a designer. Either way, the result is the same standard of craftsmanship.

Every project is unique, but as a general guide a typical timeline looks like this:
Pool and landscape design, if required: 2 to 4 weeks. Initial estimate: 1 to 2 weeks. Quote acceptance, specifications finalised and deposit paid: 1 to 2 weeks. Domestic Building Contract drawn up and signed: varies per project. Building permit: allow up to 6-8 weeks, which incorporates working drawings, engineering and surveyor assessments. Construction: 3 to 4 months.
From first conversation to swimming, most clients should allow 6 to 9 months. Timings vary per project and are provided as a guide only.

Because every TLC pool is built in concrete on site, there are essentially no limitations on shape. We build everything from classic rectangular lap pools and geometric designs to curved, circular and freeform pools tailored to the landscape. Negative edges, raised bond beams, integrated spas and water features are all part of our regular scope of work.
We love a challenge and enjoy building something that makes us think and pushes the boundaries.
Interior finishes include fully tiled pools in mosaic or large format tile, pebble and aggregate finishes, and a range of colour options to suit the surrounding palette.

We meet with you for a formal handover once construction is complete. We walk you through everything that has been done, ensure you are completely happy with every detail, and provide all the information you need to care for your pool.

The first step is a site inspection and consultation with Scott Wynd, one of our directors. He'll meet with you to discuss your vision, review your plans if you have them, and prepare a detailed written quote that includes everything discussed, with no hidden charges.
To arrange a consultation, get in touch via our contact page or call Scott directly on 0418 331 415.
